Alec, as FDA's project manager, worked closely with Mitchell Kurtz to design the complete renovation of this 141-seat proscenium theatre. When we were hired, the seats had been removed and the stage equipment was in serious disrepair. The ornate plasterwork and architectural character of the room had been painted out and the air conditioning system was non-functional. The renovation included inserting a bank of permanent tiered seating and a control booth, redesigning the proscenium arch and all new stage equipment. New HVAC was installed using the existing historic diffusers and the domed ceiling is featured; lit by a new custom chandelier. Since re-opening this little YMCA theatre has hosted many high quality events and has been one of the venues for the yearly Lincoln Center Festival.
