The Allen Performing Arts Center, north of Dallas, had higher aspirations than a typical high school auditorium. With nearly 4000 students at the high school and nearly half of those in some way involved in the music, dance or theatre programs, they needed a 1500-seat theatre that would handle large-scale productions with ease while fitting a relatively tight budget. Working as FDA's project manager, Alec collaborated closely with the Owner, PBK Architects and BAI Acoustics to develop an intimate but practical one-balcony hall that would not only serve their educational needs but would have the quality of a professional performing arts center. The full stagehouse, has a full array of counterweight and motorized rigging as well as an orchestra shell, trapped stage and a fully motorized orchestra pit. Backstage is equipped with dressing rooms as well as costume and scenery shops, rehearsal spaces and support rooms.
