The Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at the University of British Columbia
Vancouver, BC
Architect: Bing Thom Architects
Acoustics Consultant: Artec
Theatre Consultant: TPC
Completion Date: 1997
The Chan Centre includes a 1,400-seat concert hall, a 160-275-seat flexible studio theatre, and a 110-seat cinema. The venue was designed to accommodate student activities as well as provide for the demands of touring professionals, and includes adjustable acoustics to accommodate a variety of events.
Damian consulted on the acoustics design of the auditoria and noise and vibration control for the facility while at Artec. He also performed a 5-year post opening review of the project, to study the optimal usage of adjustable acoustics features, and to provide recommendations for ongoing maintainence.
