The Urban Institute of Contemporary Art hired Alec as FDA's project manager to assist them in designing the two assembly spaces in their new multi-level museum. On the lowest level will be a 200-seat cinema space where art films will be presented with the filmmakers in attendance. The space is designed to allow panel discussions and lectures to occur easily and simply without disturbing the cinema equipment. Both digital and 35mm film capabilities have been provided. On the fifth floor a 150-seat flexible studio theatre is planned where local theatre and dance groups will be able to perform. Film is also a component of this theatre and an assortment of comfy chairs and sofas will be brought in from time to time to encourage a less formal cinema experience. One wall of the studio theatre opens out into the lobby gallery space allowing it to be used as a party space during art openings and benefits.
