The Bijou Theatre in Knoxville, Tennessee is a historic venue that hosts a variety of cultural and entertainment events. It aims to promote diversity, contribute to the growth of downtown Knoxville, and showcase excellence in performing arts. The building consists of an original hotel section from 1817 and a theater added in 1909. It has served as a music hall, Vaudeville venue, and cinema.

Stages, with Mills + Schnoering Architects, provided a comprehensive facility master plan for the renovation of the theatre. Working alongside Wilson Butler Architects, Stages is involved in revitalizing the theatre, improving public amenities, and enhancing backstage areas. This includes replacing the wooden grid and hemp rigging system, as well as reintroducing accessible seating to the 2nd balcony. Stages’ scope includes theatre planning, acoustics, and audio-visual design. The project is currently in the design stage, with plans to bring the theatre back to its former glory while incorporating modern enhancements.
