PROJECT DETAIL
The Newtown Theatre building dates to 1831, when it was built as a town hall and non-sectarian church for visiting ministry. Around 1850, Newtown Hall was regularly used for performances ranging from social dances and concerts to theatrical productions. Today, the charming, 300-seat theatre is home to the Newtown Arts Company, which presents six shows per year, as well as comedy, cinema, and live music. Working with Mills + Schnoering Architects on phased renovation, Stages’ scope included theatre planning services for replacing the seating and expanding the lobby. In 2022, the Newtown Theatre was the recipient of a Presentation Achievement Award from the Preservation Alliance of Greater Philadelphia.
In 2023, Stages studied upgrading stage lighting, and began working on a project to update the rigging and electrical to support a new stage lighting package.
