The Darress was built in 1919 and was purchased by the town in February 2021. It is unique in its configuration as the audience enters the building under the stage and emerges below into the middle of the orchestra level. It has served as a movie house and community arts center. Boonton hopes that the renovation will be an engine to help the businesses on Main Street. Mills + Schnoering Architects and Stages were hired to review the existing condition of the theatre and make recommendations for the renovation and expansion of the facility and assist in the creation of Boonton’s Master Plan.
