Mariinsky Opera House

FDA was hired and Alec assigned as project manager for the design of the new Mariinsky 2, a 2,000-seat opera house for the Mariinsky Opera Company in St. Petersburg Russia. Among the many constraints faced on this project, the stage, back-of-house areas and the basements had already been designed by another team and were under construction. Working against the clock with Diamond Schmitt Architects of Toronto, Canada and local Russian Architect ViPS, we were able to develop and document a new horseshoe shaped hall that met everyone’s satisfaction in record time. The opera house opened in 2013.
