Memorial Auditorium is a historic venue designed by noted architect R.H. Hunt. It was built between 1922 and 1924 and contained 2 theatres: a 3,866-seat theatre and a 1,012-seat theatre, as well as a small trade show convention hall in the basement. The venue has hosted religious festivals, political rallies, debutante galas, opera, musicals, and concerts, and continues to be an important cultural attraction for the city of Chattanooga. Stages provided theatre planning and acoustic consulting services to design a new masking system for the balcony that creates a temporary, easily deployable barrier when a smaller capacity is desired. Stages’ scope included stage and audience chamber theatrical and room acoustical design as well as motorized and manual overhead rigging. This project completed in January 2020.
