The dream of a downtown city center for Pembroke Pines, first conceived more than a decade ago, is finally starting to come true. Once complete, the 80-acre site at Palm Avenue and Pines Boulevard will be home to more than 1,000 apartments, a multi-use civic center, a new city hall, an entertainment district that includes space for retail shops, restaurants and a hotel, and office space. The four-story, flexible-use civic center will host plays, conferences, small concerts and other performances. Stages, working alongside Cartaya and Associates, has designed a main hall in the center that can seat 3,500, and will accommodate smaller events using flexible seating. The Pembroke Pines Civic Center is currently under construction, and is planned to open in early 2016.
